Honey,are you home?

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

Home. How do you define it? I immediately envision a safe, loving place to rest and belong. According to Webster, "home" is defined as a place of residence. Who would have ever thought that the world would ask you to stay home, repeatedly? As you have probably seen by now, coronavirus-related gifs have arrived, as well as the #stayhome has. Well, I must admit something. This staying at home stuff is not perfect.

Unfortunately, thousands of people appear to be "living their best life" during this pandemic. I saw thousands flexing for the 'gram at the beach in Miami. Others are still hiking and frequenting large malls. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good breeze by the water. Hiking has never been my thing; however, I love how breathtaking mountains are! Unfortunately, the Covid-19 virus can completely take one's breath away. I still feel like people don't believe that this can kill them.

On Sunday, Louis and I sat down and watched our pastor, Marshall Ochs (Red Hills Church), virtually teach the Word from Mark in the Bible (Check out the sermon here). Right before he began preaching, three members of the Red Hills Church praise team, Ashley, Ryan, and James led worship from a living room. It was humbling to watch. No big lights. No sound machines. With minimal cords, this trio worshiped the Lord, freely. As we worshipped from home, I had an "a-ha." This is what surrender looks like. Contentment. Trading all our cares, preferences, rebellion, and distraction for time well. So, this is how we home. I listened to the message and felt a secure connection to the Word. Peculiarly strong as well.

Consider this. What if home is where the heart is? Sis, I have learned it's not the time to be rebellious. What do I mean? For example, I have a desire to go sit down in Lucky Goat (off Bannerman) and order a good ole Tallycino! OOh wee, it's good! That is my happy place. I consider it my sacred time; however, it ain't sacred right now. I'm not rebelling against the healthy choice this time. Nope! I completely respect that in this season, I need to choose a different choice. One where I'm safe and respectful of others. At home.

Sis, I encourage you to do the same. Reframe this time. Choose a different choice. Stay home. Let's be a part of the solution and not the problem.

From my home to yours,
